This service was created by me, a mom and stepmom to eight adult children, four of whom have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. The goal? Here’s a step-by-step look at how the process works, so you can feel confident about the safety and care your loved one will receive.
Step 1: Complete the Intake Form
The journey begins with the intake form on your location's landing page. The individual interested in matchmaking must have their designated support person's permission to participate. The form gathers important information about your loved one, which helps give me a good idea of what they’re looking for from Find Love Safely. This step ensures the matchmaking process is personalized and tailored to their needs and desires.
Step 2: Complete the Agreement
The designated support person and the member will receive an email from PandaDoc asking them to electronically complete and esign the IDD Matchmaking Services Agreement. Please take a moment to read the Agreement thoroughly before signing! They will then be prompted to pay the annual membership fee, which varies by location.
Step 3: Schedule Virtual Call
After payment, the support person receives an email to schedule a virtual call with the prospective Find Love Safely member, the caregiver, and their area's matchmaker. Both the individual and their support person must attend this call, as it is an opportunity for everyone to ask questions and discuss expectations. This step also plays a crucial role in safety verification because we ensure every participant is a real person who genuinely wants to engage in the process. It’s also a chance for us to learn more about the prospective member, and for you to ask us questions. After this call, the prospective member is now an official Find Love Safely member!!
Step 4: Receive Matches
When a potential match is found, the support person receives an email with detailed profile information, including the person’s age, location, and interests. If both you and your loved one agree to move forward, you’ll coordinate directly with the match’s caregiver to arrange the date.
This setup ensures that caregivers remain in control of the process, from scheduling the first meeting to managing ongoing communication. Plus, as long as your loved one is a member of Find Love Safely, they will receive unlimited matches. If, at any point, they decide they no longer want to participate, simply email us at katherine@findlovesafely.com to let us know you'd like to opt out.
